Creative agency Apartment 103 has partnered with Hennessy to develop limited-edition V.S.O.P and X.O packs for the Mid-Autumn Festival. Drawing inspiration from the moon, tea-field geometry and cognac’s fluid movement, the design uses holographic effects, embossing and tactile detailing to offer a contemporary interpretation of a cherished tradition.
Hennessy has unveiled a pair of limited-edition designs for its V.S.O.P and X.O expressions to celebrate the Mid-Autumn Festival, collaborating with creative agency Apartment 103 on a packaging concept that blends cultural symbolism with contemporary craftsmanship.
The project began with an unusual creative premise: bringing together three seemingly distinct elements that each carry their own significance. At the heart of the concept is the moon, the enduring emblem of the Mid-Autumn Festival and a symbol of reunion, reflection and celebration across many Asian cultures. Alongside it sits the geometric patterning of tea fields, chosen to reflect evolving consumption rituals and the growing appreciation of tea-inspired experiences. Completing the trio is the flowing nature of cognac itself, whose movement and depth became a key visual and tactile influence throughout the design.
Rather than presenting these references in a literal way, Apartment 103 sought to merge them into a packaging experience driven by light, texture and perception. The result is a design that changes as it is viewed, encouraging consumers to engage with the bottle and pack from multiple angles.
One of the most distinctive features is a holographic moon that shifts with changing light conditions. The effect creates a sense of movement and transformation, echoing both the changing phases of the moon and the dynamic qualities of the cognac within.
To further enhance the sensory experience, the packaging incorporates intricate micro-textures and multi-level embossing. These details introduce layers of depth and tactility, inviting touch as well as visual appreciation. The embossing techniques create subtle dimensional effects that reinforce the interaction between tradition and modern design.
Flowing varnish elements add another layer of storytelling. Designed to capture the fluidity of cognac, the varnish details appear to move across the surface of the packaging, bringing a sense of energy and elegance to the overall composition. Together, the various finishes transform the pack into more than a decorative object, creating an experience that reflects the richness and craftsmanship associated with Hennessy’s blends.
The collaboration reflects a growing trend among luxury brands to reinterpret cultural celebrations through design rather than relying solely on conventional motifs. By combining symbolic references with advanced production techniques, the limited-edition collection aims to bridge heritage and contemporary aesthetics.
For Apartment 103, the project demonstrates how packaging can serve as a medium for storytelling, translating cultural narratives into visual and tactile experiences. For Hennessy, it offers a fresh expression of Mid-Autumn Festival traditions while remaining rooted in the artistry and attention to detail that define the brand.
The final designs stand as a contemporary interpretation of the festival, where symbolism, craftsmanship and sensoriality converge. Through shifting light effects, layered textures and fluid visual cues, the collection creates a modern celebration of one of the most cherished moments in the cultural calendar.
