Apple has appointed former Google executive Lilian Rincon as Vice President of AI product marketing, signalling a sharper focus on artificial intelligence and a major overhaul of Siri. The move underscores Apple’s ambition to strengthen its AI ecosystem amid intensifying competition in next-generation digital assistants.

Apple has strengthened its artificial intelligence ambitions with the appointment of Lilian Rincon, a former Google executive, as Vice President of Product Marketing for AI, marking a significant step in its ongoing effort to redefine the future of Siri and its broader AI ecosystem.

The hire, announced on Friday, brings to Apple a seasoned leader who spent nearly a decade at Google, where she played a pivotal role in developing and scaling major AI-driven consumer products, including Google Shopping and Google Assistant. Her experience in managing large-scale, user-facing AI platforms is expected to be instrumental as Apple accelerates its push into advanced artificial intelligence capabilities.

In her new role, Rincon will oversee both product marketing and aspects of product management for Apple’s AI initiatives, including its Apple Intelligence platform and the much-anticipated evolution of Siri. She will report directly to Greg Joswiak, Apple’s Senior Vice President of Worldwide Product Marketing, placing her at the centre of how the company communicates its AI vision to consumers and developers alike.

The appointment comes at a crucial juncture for Apple, as it seeks to revitalise Siri and position it more competitively against increasingly sophisticated AI-powered assistants. The company is reportedly preparing a next-generation version of Siri, integrating advanced technologies and capabilities as part of a broader transformation of its digital assistant.

Rincon’s move also reflects a wider restructuring within Apple’s AI leadership. In recent months, the company has made a series of strategic hires and organisational changes aimed at strengthening its artificial intelligence capabilities. These include the addition of Amar Subramanya, another former Google and Microsoft executive, as Vice President of AI, highlighting Apple’s intent to build a formidable in-house AI team.

Industry observers view Rincon’s appointment as a signal that Apple is placing greater emphasis not only on developing AI technologies but also on how those innovations are positioned and delivered to users. Her dual focus on product development and marketing is expected to bridge the gap between technical capability and consumer experience, a critical factor in the success of AI-driven products.

In a LinkedIn post announcing her departure from Google, Rincon described her tenure as “one of the great privileges” of her career, underscoring her deep involvement in shaping some of the most widely used AI tools globally. Her transition to Apple represents both a continuation of that journey and a new challenge at a company seeking to redefine its place in the rapidly evolving AI landscape.

As competition intensifies among technology giants to dominate the next wave of artificial intelligence, Apple’s latest leadership move highlights its determination to close the gap and reassert itself as a key innovator. With Siri at the centre of this transformation, Rincon’s expertise could prove pivotal in shaping how millions of users interact with AI in the years ahead.
