CADBURY ADDS A CITRUS KICK TO DARK CHOCOLATE WITH LAUNCH OF BOURNVILLE ORANGE

Cadbury has unveiled Bournville Orange, a new dark chocolate combining 70 per cent cocoa with a citrus twist. The launch marks the first flavour extension in the premium 70% Bournville range, pairing intense cocoa notes with bright orange tang, as the brand seeks to refresh its classic dark chocolate offering.

The dark side of chocolate has gained a zesty new edge with the launch of Bournville Orange, a bold addition to the long-standing dark chocolate range. The new bar combines the deep, velvety intensity of dark cocoa with a lively citrus burst, creating a flavour profile designed to appeal to both traditionalists and adventurous chocolate lovers.

The release represents a notable moment for the brand. While Bournville has long been associated with rich, straightforward dark chocolate, the orange-infused variant marks the first flavour innovation in the premium 70 per cent cocoa range. Until now, the line has largely focused on its classic formulations, including the widely recognised 50 per cent cocoa option.

Developers behind the new bar describe the product as a carefully balanced pairing of deep cocoa richness and refreshing tang. The aim was to preserve the characteristically smooth and slightly bitter profile of dark chocolate while introducing a bright citrus lift that cuts through the intensity.

Chocolate and orange have long been a popular combination in confectionery, yet bringing that pairing to a high-cocoa dark chocolate format posed a different challenge. The higher cocoa content means flavours must be finely tuned so they complement rather than overpower the chocolate’s natural complexity.

The result, according to those involved in the launch, is a bar that offers layers of taste: the initial depth of dark cocoa followed by a subtle, aromatic orange note that builds gradually across the palate.

Industry observers say flavour innovation has become increasingly important in the premium chocolate segment, where consumers are seeking both indulgence and novelty. Citrus notes, in particular, have seen a resurgence as brands experiment with combinations that brighten traditional chocolate profiles.

For fans of dark chocolate, the arrival of Bournville Orange offers a fresh take on a familiar favourite — proof that even the most classic recipes can find new life with a carefully measured twist of flavour.
