KNOB CREEK RETURNS WITH 12-YEAR CASK-STRENGTH BOURBON

Knob Creek has unveiled its first 12-year-old cask-strength bourbon since 2020, bottled at 121.2 proof and priced at $90. Released under the guidance of master distiller Freddie Noe, the limited-edition whiskey will be available through the holidays, continuing the brand’s tradition of releasing cask-strength expressions only when the spirit demands it.

Knob Creek has re-entered the cask-strength arena with a striking new release: a 12-year-old bourbon bottled at 121.2 proof, marking the distillery’s first such expression since 2020. Priced at $90 and expected to remain available through the holiday season, the limited-edition whiskey is already generating excitement among enthusiasts who have long awaited its return.

Unlike many whiskey brands that maintain permanent cask-strength offerings, Knob Creek takes a more selective approach. Under the leadership of eighth-generation master distiller Freddie Noe, the Clermont, Kentucky-based distillery only bottles cask-strength bourbon when a particular batch is deemed exceptional enough to stand on its own, straight from the barrel. This philosophy means that releases are unpredictable, dictated not by marketing calendars but by the character of the whiskey itself.

The new 12-year-old expression reflects that ethos. By allowing the bourbon to remain uncut and unfiltered, Knob Creek offers drinkers a glimpse into the raw intensity of the spirit as it emerges from the barrel. At 121.2 proof, the whiskey promises a robust flavour profile, likely to showcase the depth and complexity that comes with extended ageing. For collectors and connoisseurs, the unpredictability of these releases adds to their allure, making each bottling a snapshot of Knob Creek’s craftsmanship at a particular moment in time.

The decision to release this bourbon ahead of the holiday season is strategic, positioning it as both a celebratory indulgence and a coveted gift. At $90, it sits in the accessible luxury bracket, offering enthusiasts the chance to experience a rare cask-strength expression without venturing into the stratospheric prices often associated with limited editions.

Knob Creek’s approach also underscores a broader conversation in American whiskey. While many distilleries have embraced cask-strength bottlings as permanent fixtures, Knob Creek’s restraint highlights a commitment to authenticity over consistency. By letting the whiskey itself dictate the timing, the brand reinforces its reputation for integrity and craftsmanship, ensuring that each release is not just another product but a genuine reflection of the spirit’s best expression.

For those who have followed Knob Creek’s journey, the return of a 12-year-old cask-strength bourbon is a reminder of the brand’s willingness to surprise and delight. It is also a testament to the enduring appeal of bourbon that speaks for itself, unadulterated and uncompromising. As the holidays approach, this release is poised to become both a talking point and a treasured pour, embodying the unpredictability and artistry that make whiskey such a compelling tradition.
