Tata Group’s fashion retailer Westside is embarking on its most ambitious expansion, aiming to open up to 100 stores annually across India. Led by CEO Shailina Parti, the strategy targets emerging markets such as Northeast India, strengthens omnichannel capabilities, and invests in AI-driven design and supply chain innovation.
Tata Group’s fashion arm Westside is preparing for a dramatic acceleration in its retail footprint, unveiling plans to open as many as 100 new stores each year. The move marks the brand’s most aggressive expansion to date, signalling its intent to strengthen growth beyond its value-fashion sibling, Zudio, and consolidate its position in India’s competitive fashion retail sector.
The expansion strategy will focus on emerging markets, including Northeast India, while simultaneously deepening Westside’s presence in major metropolitan centres. Alongside physical growth, the retailer is sharpening its omnichannel capabilities, ensuring that customers experience a seamless blend of offline and online shopping.
Shailina Parti, Chief Executive Officer of Westside, acknowledged the scale of the ambition. “We’ve been opening 10 to 15 stores each year, so to suddenly jump to a hundred stores is ambitious, but we’re ready for it,” she said. Parti emphasised that the brand’s next phase will centre on creating a stronger fashion-led shopping experience, supported by digital innovation and advanced technology.
Westside is investing heavily in artificial intelligence to enhance both design and supply chain operations. By embedding AI into its processes, the retailer aims to accelerate product development, improve efficiency, and respond more swiftly to evolving consumer preferences. This technological backbone is expected to underpin the company’s ability to scale rapidly while maintaining quality and relevance.
The expansion reflects Tata Group’s broader strategy of reinforcing its fashion retail portfolio. While Zudio has captured significant market share in the value-fashion segment, Westside is positioned to drive growth in the mid-market and premium categories, offering curated collections that appeal to India’s increasingly style-conscious consumers.
Industry observers note that the decision to target emerging regions such as the Northeast demonstrates Westside’s intent to tap into underpenetrated markets, while its continued investment in major cities ensures it remains competitive against both domestic and international rivals.
As India’s fashion retail landscape evolves, Westside’s bold expansion plan underscores Tata Group’s confidence in the sector’s long-term potential. With a blend of physical scale, digital integration, and AI-driven innovation, the retailer is positioning itself to capture a larger share of the country’s fashion-conscious audience and redefine its role in the market.
