Turkish pop icon Hande Yener has unveiled STAR Gene, an Amsterdam-based archive store showcasing her personal wardrobe alongside rare designer and vintage fashion. Now available online across Europe, STAR Gene reimagines clothing as living artefacts, extending their life cycle and cultural value while connecting Yener’s stage history with new owners.
For more than two decades, Hande Yener has been one of Turkey’s most recognisable pop figures, celebrated not only for her music but also for a visual identity defined by reinvention. Her career has been marked by bold styling choices, experimental aesthetics and a wardrobe that has grown through performances, music videos and public appearances. That history now forms the foundation of STAR Gene, the independent archive store and creative concept she has launched in Amsterdam.
Located at Herenstraat 32, STAR Gene is far from a conventional fashion boutique. It brings together rare designer fashion, vintage finds and pre-owned luxury sourced from the secondary market, but at its centre lies Yener’s own personal archive. Garments and accessories connected to different eras of her career are presented not as static relics but as pieces capable of continuing their stories with new owners.
Throughout her career, Yener has treated fashion as an extension of her music, a way of shaping her stage persona and amplifying her sound. Her wardrobe has evolved in tandem with her artistry, reflecting more than twenty years of changing aesthetics, collaborations and performance culture. Rather than consigning these garments to storage, STAR Gene offers them a second life, situating them within a space where fashion, art and music coexist. Archive clothing is displayed alongside contemporary creative work and objects, creating a dialogue between past and present.
The concept also resonates with a broader movement within fashion that seeks to extend the life cycle of garments and reconsider the cultural value of personal and performance archives. In an era increasingly conscious of sustainability and heritage, STAR Gene positions itself as both a creative experiment and a cultural statement.
The project has now expanded beyond Amsterdam. With European online sales available, STAR Gene’s reach extends to customers across the continent, allowing them to access selections from Yener’s archive, as well as vintage and pre-owned pieces curated for the store. For Yener, this expansion is a natural continuation of the idea behind the project. “Fashion has always been another form of expression for me, just like music,” she explains. “Over the years, I accumulated pieces that belonged to very different moments of my life and career. I didn’t want them simply to remain in an archive. STAR Gene allows these pieces to continue their stories with someone else. Opening that world to people across Europe feels like the next step.”
Rather than positioning the archive as a retrospective, STAR Gene treats clothing as fluid, capable of moving between owners, eras and contexts. Each garment carries its history while becoming part of a new one. In doing so, Yener’s project challenges traditional notions of fashion archives, transforming them into living collections that bridge performance culture, sustainability and personal storytelling.
