Jio Platforms made a spectacular stock market debut, becoming India’s second most valuable company by market capitalisation after adding ₹2.76 lakh crore to investor wealth on listing day. Backed by nearly 80 lakh shareholders, the telecom and digital giant celebrated a milestone that reflects its deep reach across India.
In a landmark moment for India’s capital markets, Jio Platforms delivered a blockbuster stock market debut, emerging as the country’s second most valuable listed company and rewarding millions of investors with unprecedented gains on its first day of trading.
Opening at ₹1,358 against its initial public offering (IPO) price of ₹1,119, Jio Platforms registered a strong 21 per cent premium at listing, reflecting robust investor confidence in the company’s digital and telecommunications business. The listing marked the culmination of one of the most closely watched public offerings in Indian corporate history.
The company’s market capitalisation stood at ₹10.3 lakh crore at the time of listing but surged to ₹13.06 lakh crore by the close of trading. The remarkable jump translated into an addition of ₹2.76 lakh crore to investor wealth in a single day, a feat that sets a new benchmark in the Indian stock market. Market observers described it as the largest wealth creation by an Indian company on its debut trading session.
The strong performance elevated Jio Platforms to the position of India’s second most valuable company by market capitalisation, behind only Reliance Industries Ltd. The achievement further underscored the growing importance of digital infrastructure and connectivity in the country’s economic landscape.
A major highlight of the listing was the overwhelming participation of retail investors. With 79.62 lakh shareholders, Jio described itself as the largest shareholder family in India. In a message of gratitude, the company thanked millions of investors across the country for their trust and support, stating, “Thank you, India. Jio aapne banaya,” emphasising that the company’s growth story had been built by the people it serves.
The successful debut was also a moment of celebration for the Ambani family. Akash Ambani, Anant Ambani and Isha Ambani expressed happiness over the milestone, which they viewed as a testament to Jio’s transformative role in India’s digital journey.
Reflecting on the company’s impact, Anant Ambani highlighted how Jio has changed lives across the country. He recalled stories of students using affordable internet access to continue their education, families staying connected through Jio Video Call services, and people from economically weaker sections gaining access to communication tools that were once beyond their reach.
“Jio played a crucial role in enabling me to continue my education. It brought distant family members closer through Jio Video Call. It brought the love of family to the poor. It provided a platform for influencers,” Anant said while sharing examples of the company’s social and economic influence.
Since its inception, Jio has been widely credited with expanding internet access, lowering data costs and accelerating India’s digital adoption. The company’s market debut now represents not only a financial milestone but also a reflection of the confidence that millions of users and investors have placed in its vision.
For shareholders, the listing day was more than a market event. It was a celebration of a company whose growth story has become intertwined with India’s digital transformation.
