Cadbury Celebrations, in partnership with Ogilvy India, has launched a Diwali campaign spotlighting the playful quarrels and quiet affection that define neighbourly ties. Rooted in everyday residential life, the initiative positions gifting as a bridge from nok-jhok to thoda sa pyaar, with Milky Mithai adding a festive twist to the brand’s offering.
Cadbury Celebrations is inviting households across India to rediscover the warmth in their neighbourly relationships this Diwali with a campaign that blends cultural insight with festive generosity. Created with Ogilvy India, the initiative turns the spotlight on the familiar dynamics of residential life, where comfort and friction often coexist.
Neighbours are among the most constant figures in our daily routines, and with that constancy comes both camaraderie and conflict. A parking dispute, a noisy late-night party, a pet straying across boundaries or a cricket match in the compound can quickly escalate into a quarrel. Yet, as the campaign reminds us, Diwali offers a natural pause — a moment to set aside grievances and reconnect.
The film at the heart of the campaign captures this relatable dynamic, showing how the season of lights transforms everyday tiffs into opportunities for reconciliation. A box of Cadbury Celebrations becomes more than a gift; it is a gesture of peace, an invitation to soften hard feelings and begin anew. The creative thought is distilled into a simple, universal message: Diwali gives us the chance to turn nok-jhok into thoda sa pyaar.
Vinay Subramanyam, Vice President – Marketing, Mondelez India, underscored the cultural resonance of the idea. “Diwali has always been a time to pause, reconnect and celebrate the people around us. Our latest campaign tries to depict the beautiful and unique relationship that we Indians have with our neighbours – we bicker, we banter but underneath, there is bonhomie, especially during Diwali. We are pleased to launch Milky Mithai under the brand Cadbury Celebrations, which is a magical coming together of fine chocolate with the taste of iconic Indian Mithais.”
The introduction of Milky Mithai adds a product innovation to the narrative, marrying the indulgence of chocolate with the nostalgia of traditional sweets. This fusion reflects the evolving nature of festive gifting, where modern tastes meet cultural heritage.
Sukesh Nayak, Chief Creative Officer, Ogilvy India, highlighted the emotional core of the campaign. “There’s enough bitterness in the world but a little sweetness has the power to go a long way. With our latest Diwali campaign, we wanted to celebrate the familiar, playful quarrels between neighbours – and how quickly they can melt into warmth when someone makes the first move. It doesn’t take much to soften a hard feeling: a knock on the door, a plate of Meetha, a little generosity. In a world that can feel divided, that small sweetness can bring us closer.”
By weaving together everyday realities with festive symbolism, Cadbury Celebrations has crafted a campaign that resonates across communities. It acknowledges the quirks of neighbourly life while celebrating the bonds that endure beneath them. In doing so, the brand positions itself not only as a purveyor of chocolate but as a catalyst for connection, ensuring that this Diwali, sweetness is shared as generously as light.
