Dr. Nithin Kalorth’s two‑minute experimental fiction film Here, There, Where has been officially selected for screening at the International Network of Experimental Fiction Filmmaking Festival in Manchester. The work interrogates platform‑mediated life and invisible systems of authority, marking a significant step in his ongoing exploration of experimental cinema and digital culture.
Dr. Nithin Kalorth’s latest project, Here, There, Where, has been recognised on the international stage with its official selection for the International Network of Experimental Fiction Filmmaking (INEFF) Festival in Manchester, UK, on 20 June 2026. The two‑minute experimental fiction film was created for the 24/7 Experimental Fiction Filmmaking Competition and challenges conventional storytelling by examining the hidden structures of authority that shape everyday life in digital and institutional spaces.
Developed under strict formal constraints, including duration and form, the film eschews traditional narrative in favour of repetition, fragmentation, and constrained observation. Through this approach, Kalorth explores how power is encountered and negotiated across contemporary systems, offering audiences a meditation on waiting, mediated experience, and the subtle mechanisms of control embedded in modern existence.
Kalorth, Associate Professor at the School of Creative Media, Bahrain Polytechnic, brings more than 15 years of academic and professional expertise to the project. His specialisation spans digital society, film studies, photography, mobile storytelling, and news design. He has conducted workshops for organisations such as the World Health Organization, Kerala Press Club, The Foreign Correspondents’ Club of South Asia, IIT Goa, and BITS Pilani, underscoring his commitment to advancing digital storytelling practices.
His academic achievements include a First Rank and Gold Medal in Electronic Media from the University of Madras, alongside a PhD in Film Studies from MG University, Kottayam, supported by the UGC JRF Scholarship. With contributions to over 40 national and international conferences, and extensive publications across journals, books, and encyclopaedias, Kalorth has established himself as a leading voice in media and film scholarship. His editorial work includes two Scopus‑indexed volumes on OTT media, further cementing his influence in the evolving digital landscape.
Beyond academia, Kalorth plays a vital role in nurturing emerging talent. He serves as jury head for the Indian School Film Festival in Oman and as a jury member for the Yuva Film Festival in Chennai, India. His dedication to mentoring young creators reflects his broader vision of shaping the next generation of media and film professionals through innovation and collaboration.
The selection of Here, There, Where at INEFF represents not only a personal milestone but also a contribution to the global discourse on experimental cinema. By merging creative practice with media studies and digital culture, Kalorth continues to push boundaries, positioning experimental film as a powerful mode of inquiry into the complexities of contemporary life.
