BMW has partnered with Melstacorp PLC, appointing Mels Automobiles Ltd. as the authorised importer and dealer for BMW vehicles in Sri Lanka. Chairman Hasitha Jayawardena called it a milestone, while BMW executives highlighted growth ambitions. Prestige Automobiles will support customers during the transition, ensuring continuity in Sri Lanka’s premium auto market.

Melstacorp PLC has announced a landmark partnership with BMW, appointing its fully owned subsidiary Mels Automobiles Ltd. as the authorised importer and dealer for BMW vehicles in Sri Lanka. The move signals a significant shift in the country’s premium automotive landscape, positioning Melstacorp as a central player in delivering BMW’s globally recognised standards of innovation, engineering excellence and customer experience.

Chairman Hasitha Jayawardena described the partnership as a defining milestone for the Group, emphasising how the collaboration aligns with BMW’s international benchmarks. His remarks underscored Melstacorp’s ambition to elevate Sri Lanka’s luxury mobility sector, ensuring that customers benefit from the brand’s cutting-edge technology and refined service ethos.

BMW Group Asia Managing Director Rene Gerhard reinforced this vision, affirming Sri Lanka’s importance as a premium mobility market within the region. He highlighted BMW’s long-term growth ambitions, noting that the partnership reflects confidence in Sri Lanka’s evolving consumer base and appetite for luxury vehicles. Gerhard’s comments point to BMW’s strategy of deepening its presence in emerging markets where demand for premium mobility solutions is steadily rising.

CEO Anushka Polonowita added that Mels Automobiles is committed to service excellence and brand stewardship, pledging to uphold BMW’s reputation for quality and customer satisfaction. His statement reflects the operational priorities of the new dealership, which will focus on delivering seamless experiences across sales, after-sales service and customer engagement.

During the transition period, Prestige Automobiles Ltd. will continue supporting existing BMW customers to ensure continuity and minimise disruption. This arrangement highlights the importance of maintaining trust and loyalty among BMW’s established customer base while the new dealership infrastructure is put in place.

The partnership represents more than a business transaction; it is a strategic alignment that blends Melstacorp’s local expertise with BMW’s global prestige. For Sri Lanka, the move signals renewed confidence in its premium automotive market, which has faced challenges in recent years but continues to attract discerning buyers seeking international standards of luxury and performance.

Industry observers view the collaboration as a potential catalyst for growth in Sri Lanka’s high-end automotive sector. By combining Melstacorp’s strong corporate presence with BMW’s brand equity, the partnership could redefine customer expectations and set new benchmarks for service delivery. It also reflects a broader trend of global automotive giants strengthening ties with local partners to navigate market complexities and unlock long-term opportunities.

As Sri Lanka positions itself as a hub for premium mobility, the BMW-Melstacorp alliance stands as a testament to the country’s potential. With continuity assured through Prestige Automobiles and future growth driven by Mels Automobiles, BMW customers in Sri Lanka can expect a seamless transition and a renewed focus on innovation, luxury and customer-centricity.
