To celebrate its 80th anniversary, Boral has launched a campaign with Sydney agency 3rdspace that shifts focus from corporate milestones to everyday Australians. Highlighting hospitals, homes, and infrastructure shaped by its materials, the film embraces sustainability and authenticity, underscoring Boral’s legacy while signalling its ambition for a greener future.

Australia’s largest construction materials supplier, Boral, is marking its 80th anniversary with a campaign that reflects not only its history but also its future. Partnering with Sydney independent agency and production company 3rdspace, the company has unveiled a film that celebrates the impact of its work on the lives of Australians.

With a workforce of more than 7,500 employees and contractors, Boral has played a pivotal role in building modern Australia. Its materials have supported iconic projects such as Parliament House, the Sydney Harbour Bridge, the Hume Highway, Snowy Hydro, and the Sydney Metro. Yet for this milestone, Boral deliberately avoided the traditional corporate montage, choosing instead to spotlight the everyday Australians whose lives are shaped by the infrastructure it helps create.

The film emphasises hospitals, roads, homes, and community spaces, grounding Boral’s legacy in human experience. Sustainability was central to the production: recycled wardrobes were used, solar-powered batteries ran the equipment, and all locations were chosen within a five-kilometre radius to minimise the carbon footprint.

Local talent drove the project, with Rhys Day directing and editing, Jack Saltmira as director of photography, and Luna Pan composing the score. Casting was kept close to home, with an 80-year-old couple and their grandchild played by the real-life family of 3rdspace founder Rob Logan, lending authenticity to the narrative.

Ben Wyld, Boral’s Head of Brand, Communications and Marketing, said: “To capture 80 years of history is no small feat, but the 3rdspace team created magic. We are incredibly proud of this campaign; it celebrates our past and future in a way that feels genuine and new, humanising what Boral has done for generations of Australians in shaping the built environment. At life’s milestone moments, our solutions and products are all around.”

The campaign not only honours Boral’s legacy but also signals its ambition to build sustainably for the future, ensuring its role in shaping Australia remains as relevant in the decades ahead as it has been for the past 80 years.
