Reliance Consumer Products has unveiled Bombay Creamery, its bold entry into India’s ice cream market. Promising “accessible premium” indulgence at prices starting from ₹10, the brand will roll out nationally, backed by Reliance’s formidable retail and distribution network. It signals a serious, long-term commitment to reshaping the frozen dessert landscape.
Reliance Consumer Products Limited (RCPL) has chosen ice cream as its latest frontier, unveiling Bombay Creamery in a move that blends nostalgia with modern retail ambition. The brand, described as “accessible premium”, is crafted with real dairy cream and priced to disrupt, starting at just ₹10.
The launch is not a whimsical experiment but a calculated play. RCPL’s vast distribution infrastructure and retail scale give Bombay Creamery a launchpad few rivals can match. Beginning in Western India, the rollout is designed to go national, positioning Reliance as a formidable challenger to entrenched players like Amul, Mother Dairy, Kwality Wall’s and Havmor.
The product line spans cones, cups, tubs, bars and sticks, catering to both impulse buyers and families seeking affordable indulgence. T. Krishnakumar, Director at RCPL, framed the philosophy succinctly: “Dairy shouldn’t need shortcuts.” It is a statement of intent—Reliance wants to own authenticity in a category often accused of compromise.
Industry watchers note the timing is astute. With festive seasons and family gatherings ahead, ice cream consumption spikes, and Reliance’s entry could capture both urban and semi-urban markets. The pricing strategy, combined with distribution muscle, may well redraw the competitive map of India’s frozen dessert industry.
Bombay Creamery is more than a brand launch; it is a signal of Reliance’s long-term FMCG ambitions. Having already revived Campa Cola and expanded into packaged foods, RCPL is steadily building a portfolio that touches everyday Indian lives. Ice cream, with its blend of indulgence and accessibility, is the latest piece in that puzzle.
