A Microsoft veteran, Bavi highlighted India’s inflection point where startups are building and scaling with AI, shaping its role across the economy.

Sangeeta Bavi has announced her appointment as Head of Digital Natives, Startups and Growth for India at Anthropic, marking a significant leadership move in the country’s fast-evolving AI and startup ecosystem. Sharing the news on LinkedIn, Bavi described the role as “deeply meaningful,” reflecting her long-standing connection to India’s founder community and her commitment to supporting growth-stage companies.

In her post, Bavi emphasised that India is “at an extraordinary inflection point,” with entrepreneurs and emerging businesses not only adopting artificial intelligence but actively building with it, scaling with it, and embedding it across diverse sectors of the economy. Her words capture the momentum of India’s startup landscape, where AI-driven innovation is increasingly central to business models and expansion strategies.

Bavi brings extensive experience to Anthropic, having spent years at Microsoft where she worked closely with digital-native businesses and technology-led initiatives. Her career also includes a brief but impactful stint as Chief Operating Officer at YourStory Media, a platform deeply embedded in India’s entrepreneurial ecosystem. This blend of corporate expertise and startup engagement positions her uniquely to bridge global AI capabilities with local founder ambitions.

Anthropic’s decision to appoint Bavi underscores its focus on India as a critical growth market, where AI adoption is accelerating across industries from fintech and healthcare to consumer technology and digital commerce. With her leadership, the company aims to strengthen its partnerships with startups and growth-stage enterprises, enabling them to harness AI not just as a tool but as a transformative driver of scale and impact.

Industry observers note that Bavi’s appointment reflects a broader trend of global AI firms investing in India’s entrepreneurial ecosystem, recognising the country’s role as both a hub of innovation and a testing ground for scalable solutions. For founders, her arrival signals greater access to expertise, networks, and AI-driven strategies that can fuel sustainable growth.
