Audi has collaborated with textile artist Luna Muñoz to transform the 753-kilometre electric range of the Audi A6 Sportback e-tron into a seven-metre handwoven tapestry. The project, titled “The Most Beautiful Journey”, merges technology and craftsmanship, highlighting the brand’s longest electric range through contemporary textile art.

In an ambitious fusion of engineering and artistry, Audi has transformed the 753-kilometre electric range of its new Audi A6 Sportback e-tron into a striking textile artwork created by Spanish artist Luna Muñoz. Unveiled in Madrid on 3 March 2026, the initiative reimagines the brand’s longest-ever electric range as 753 kilometres of handwoven thread, culminating in a seven-metre tapestry that bridges technology, territory and craftsmanship.

Titled “The Most Beautiful Journey”, the project seeks to make tangible what is typically measured only in data and distance. Rather than presenting the vehicle’s record-breaking range through conventional automotive metrics, Audi chose to interpret each kilometre as a physical thread, inviting audiences to experience performance through texture and touch.

Muñoz, founder of Casa Chinchilla and renowned for her mastery of the high-warp loom – a traditional vertical weaving technique – was commissioned to translate this ambitious concept into reality. Accustomed to working within defined formats, she described the scale of the undertaking as unprecedented in her practice. “The biggest challenge has been having to work from kilometres of thread instead of from a format, which is how I always work,” she explained.

The resulting tapestry stretches seven metres in length and symbolically charts a journey through diverse landscapes. Through variations in material, density and volume, Muñoz evokes shifting terrains and atmospheres, rendering the abstract notion of range into a richly layered visual narrative. Textures rise and recede; threads gather and disperse, mirroring the rhythm of travel and the subtle changes encountered along a long-distance drive.

The artwork’s conceptual strength lies in its juxtaposition of cutting-edge electric mobility with one of humanity’s oldest crafts. By employing the painstaking technique of high-warp weaving, Muñoz underscores the patience and precision shared by both artisan and engineer. The loom becomes an unlikely counterpart to the production line, each demanding rigour, vision and technical mastery.

For Audi, the collaboration represents more than a celebration of battery capability. It signals a broader brand philosophy that positions innovation alongside emotional resonance. In an era increasingly shaped by artificial intelligence and digital acceleration, the company’s decision to foreground the handmade speaks to a desire for authenticity within premium positioning.

Fran Arguijo, Creative Director at Ogilvy in Barcelona, which collaborated on the initiative, framed the project as a strategic expression of modern luxury.

“For this project, we looked for an artist whose craftsmanship would highlight this technological milestone,” he said. “In an environment saturated by AI, the artisanal world has become the voice of premium brands. The value of the handmade, the authentic, differentiates you and positions you as a ‘human luxury’ brand.”

The A6 Sportback e-tron’s 753-kilometre range marks a significant milestone in Audi’s electrification journey, positioning the model at the forefront of long-distance electric mobility within the brand’s portfolio. By converting this figure into a tactile experience, Audi reframes technical achievement as cultural expression.

Displayed as both artwork and statement piece, the tapestry invites viewers to reconsider how progress is measured. Where kilometres typically exist as numbers on a dashboard, here they are threads interlaced by hand, each one representing motion, possibility and continuity. The piece stands not only as a tribute to electric performance, but also as a meditation on the beauty of the journey itself.

In weaving together heritage craft and forward-looking engineering, Audi demonstrates that innovation need not be purely mechanical. Sometimes, it can be something you can almost feel beneath your fingertips.
