Casio has unveiled the MRG-B2100HR, a limited-edition G-SHOCK MR-G timepiece commemorating the series’ 30th anniversary. Inspired by Japanese metal leaf artistry, the watch features a platinum-leaf dial crafted by Hiroto Rakusho, advanced alloys for durability, and will be released in a global run of just 800 pieces.
Casio Computer Co., Ltd. has expanded its premium MR-G lineup with the launch of the MRG-B2100HR, a striking new limited-edition timepiece under the flagship G-SHOCK range. With only 800 units available worldwide, the release is set to become a coveted addition for collectors and enthusiasts alike. The unveiling marks the 30th anniversary of the MR-G series, first introduced in 1996, and pays tribute to Japanese craftsmanship through the theme of “haruka” – eternity.
The MRG-B2100HR draws inspiration from traditional metal leaf artistry, blending heritage techniques with contemporary watchmaking innovation. At the heart of its design lies a dimensional lattice-pattern dial, influenced by kigumi, the intricate Japanese woodworking method known for its interlocking structures. Each dial is finished with platinum leaf, individually decorated by renowned metal leaf artist Hiroto Rakusho. Casio has emphasised that powdered platinum leaf has been applied to create depth and texture, ensuring that every piece carries its own distinctive character.
The new model builds upon the shock-resistant MRG-B2100, celebrated for its octagonal bezel design. Rakusho’s artistry extends beyond the dial, with visual elements incorporated into the bezel and bracelet, creating a cohesive aesthetic that bridges tradition and modernity. The exterior design reflects the shimmering qualities of metal leaf through structural colour technology, achieved using precision laser processing. This technique produces dynamic colour effects that shift with the viewing angle, offering a finish that is both contemporary and deeply rooted in Japanese artistry.
Casio has highlighted its ambition to merge traditional craftsmanship with advanced manufacturing processes, presenting a timepiece that embodies both heritage and innovation. The bezel itself is a feat of engineering, constructed from 27 individual components, each polished separately before assembly to achieve a meticulous finish. For durability, Casio has employed COBARION, a high-hardness alloy, in the bezel, while the bracelet is crafted from DAT55G, a titanium-based alloy renowned for its strength and resilience. Together, these materials ensure the watch is as robust as it is refined.
The MRG-B2100HR is more than a commemorative edition; it is a statement of how artistry and technology can coexist in horology. By incorporating Rakusho’s platinum leaf craftsmanship into a modern G-SHOCK, Casio has created a timepiece that reflects eternity not only in theme but in execution. With its limited run of 800 pieces, the watch is poised to become a collector’s treasure, symbolising three decades of MR-G innovation while honouring Japan’s artistic heritage.
