Godawan Artisanal Indian Whisky has launched the Godawan 173: The Collector’s Edition, celebrating the survival of the critically endangered Great Indian Bustard. With 173 unique bottles symbolising each bird, the project reframes conservation through luxury, linking Rajasthan’s fragile craft of Jaipur Blue Pottery with the fragile resilience of the Godawan.

The Godawan 173: The Collector’s Edition is not merely a bottle of whisky but a symbol of survival, crafted to bring one of India’s most overlooked conservation victories into the public eye.  

For five years, the brand has been deeply invested in protecting the Great Indian Bustard, locally known as the Godawan, a critically endangered bird whose numbers had dwindled alarmingly. Through sustained on-the-ground conservation efforts, the population rose from 96 to 173—a rare and hopeful milestone in the narrative of ecological preservation. Yet, despite this achievement, public awareness remained minimal, threatening the momentum and cultural relevance of the project. The challenge was clear: how to transform a quiet environmental success into a story the world would care about.  

The creative approach was to invert the conventions of conservation storytelling. Instead of focusing on loss and decline, the narrative celebrated survival. Borrowing the aspirational language of luxury—where rarity is prized, craftsmanship revered, and ownership signals pride—the project framed nature itself as something rare and worthy of preservation. Thus was born the Godawan 173: The Collector’s Edition.  

The edition comprises 173 one-of-a-kind bottles, each representing a single surviving bird. Every purchase is more than a collectible; it is an act of ownership of the cause itself. The symbolism is profound, binding together the fragility of the bird with the fragility of craft. Rajasthan, the Godawan’s last remaining habitat, is also home to Jaipur Blue Pottery, a centuries-old tradition known for its delicacy and resilience.
