At an exclusive unveiling in Budapest, The Macallan introduced Horizon, a rare single malt created with Bentley Motors. With only two bottles in Hungary, the release fuses whisky craftsmanship and automotive design, featuring a striking horizontal bottle and a complex flavour profile shaped by six sherry-seasoned oak casks.

In an evening defined by rarity and refined craftsmanship, The Macallan unveiled its latest creation, Horizon, at an exclusive gathering inside the bar of the W Budapest Hotel. The event marked the arrival of one of the most limited whisky releases in recent memory, with only two bottles of this exceptional single malt making their way to Hungary.

Horizon is the result of a distinctive collaboration between the storied whisky house and Bentley Motors, a partnership that seeks to merge two worlds often celebrated independently: the artistry of whisky making and the precision engineering of luxury automotive design. The outcome is a statement piece that transcends conventional packaging and enters the realm of sculptural design.

At the centre of the release is a striking horizontal bottle, rotated at 180 degrees, challenging traditional whisky presentation. This innovative design is not merely aesthetic but symbolic, reflecting a shared ethos between the two brands. The vessel is constructed from six carefully chosen materials that echo their respective heritages, including precision-engineered aluminium, recycled copper, and Bentley’s signature walnut wood. Together, these elements form a tactile narrative of sustainability, craftsmanship, and forward-thinking design.

Inside the bottle lies a whisky crafted with equal attention to detail. The expression has been created by Kirsteen Campbell, Master Whisky Maker at The Macallan, who has drawn upon six first-fill sherry seasoned oak casks to shape its character. The result is a layered and complex profile that speaks to both tradition and innovation.

On the palate, Horizon reveals a rich tapestry of flavours. Notes of butterscotch and vanilla provide a smooth, indulgent foundation, while hints of ginger and pineapple introduce a subtle vibrancy. These are complemented by deeper tones of dark chocolate, alongside accents of oak and leather, creating a balanced and evolving tasting experience that rewards careful appreciation.

The unveiling in Budapest underscores the growing appetite for ultra-premium, design-led spirits, where the narrative surrounding the product is as significant as the liquid itself. With its limited availability and distinctive concept, Horizon stands not only as a collector’s item but also as a testament to what can be achieved when heritage brands collaborate across disciplines.

For those fortunate enough to encounter it, The Macallan Horizon offers more than a dram; it delivers an experience shaped by innovation, rarity, and a shared pursuit of excellence.
