SAUDI ARABIA TURNS WALLS OF REJECTION INTO INVITATIONS

Saudi Arabia has launched a bold campaign transforming graffiti messages of rejection across European cities into invitations to visit the Kingdom. Created by SRMG Labs with international collaborators, the work reframes exclusion into welcome, positioning Saudi Arabia as a destination of openness and hospitality aligned with Vision 2030’s tourism ambitions.

In a striking new campaign, Saudi Arabia has reimagined the messages etched across Europe’s most visited cities, transforming words of rejection into a global invitation. The initiative, created by SRMG Labs under the leadership of Ciaran Bonass, brings together an international team of creatives, photographers and filmmakers to reposition Saudi Arabia as a destination of welcome and discovery.

The campaign draws inspiration from the old saying, “If these walls could talk.” In recent years, walls in popular European tourist hubs have been daubed with graffiti urging visitors to “go home,” reflecting tensions around overtourism. Rather than ignore this sentiment, the creative team chose to subvert it, turning the language of exclusion into a message of inclusion. The result is a bold reworking of urban communication, recast as an invitation from Saudi Arabia to the world.

The project was developed in collaboration with Fadi Mroue, Leo Razera, Glauber Dorotheu, Stefano Chiabrando, Joha Granados, Deydson Rocha, Jefferson Barros Menezes, Polly Williams and Moushmi Bhatia, alongside the Saudi Tourism Authority. Photography by Nixon Freire and film direction by Renan Rodrigues capture the campaign’s visual power, while sound design from Lucas Duque and Sonido Antro adds an immersive dimension. The collective effort underscores the scale of international talent involved in reshaping Saudi Arabia’s tourism narrative.

At its core, the campaign is about reframing perception. Where some destinations are closing their doors, Saudi Arabia is opening them wide, positioning itself as a country eager to share its culture, heritage and hospitality. The creative execution juxtaposes the starkness of rejection with the warmth of invitation, offering travellers a fresh perspective on a nation undergoing rapid transformation.

The work also reflects Saudi Arabia’s broader ambition to expand its tourism sector as part of Vision 2030. By turning negative messages into positive ones, the campaign not only challenges stereotypes but also signals a new chapter in the country’s global engagement. It is a reminder that tourism is not merely about visiting places, but about the stories nations choose to tell about themselves.

For Bonass and his team, the campaign embodies the principle of “making things people truly want and need.” In this case, it is the need for connection, belonging and welcome in a world where travel can often feel contested. By reclaiming the language of rejection, Saudi Arabia has crafted a narrative of openness that resonates far beyond its borders.

This latest work stands as a testament to the power of creativity in shaping national identity. It demonstrates how advertising can move beyond promotion to become a cultural statement, one that challenges prevailing attitudes and invites dialogue. As Saudi Arabia continues to position itself on the global tourism map, campaigns like this will play a pivotal role in shaping how the world sees the Kingdom.
